Good day everyone!
I know I haven't been posting lately, but I'm still around.

Today I want to share a way to find out how and where your artworks are being used around the internet by using the Google image search engine.

To do this, simply go to the Google images webpage.

Beside the search bar there is a little camera icon.

Click on it and it will prompt you to either paste the url of your selected image or to upload it.

If you are checking a deviation, right click on the deviation and click "copy image url".

Then simply paste it into the prompt box.

I was actually really suprised at how effective the search was.
Previously I saw a site that had a (likely) stolen artwork that I really liked printed onto t-shirts. I used the above method to find the real creator of the work and was pleasantly suprised when it actually managed to direct me to the original artwork (which I faved here on dA :)). There was no way it could have used the camera data etc. as the artwork was physically printed onto the product and the photo had been likely taken by some random camera. This means that the search engine kind of looked at the image itself and recognised it which is mind blowing...

Anyways, do it at your own risk though :P You might not be very impressed with the results. I found some of my works on facebook, some melodic death metal album thing on vk.com and on weheartit. At least the person on weheartit had left the watermark and included a credit, the other two had purposely removed the watermark :( I think I may have to get to reporting all of them.

I actually don't mind my works being distributed with credit and unmodified however, even if credit is given, this being a photomanip, the stock providers are rarely credited as well etc. and it gets really complicated. So I just usually put a blanket 'do not use this for anything' rule.

Just a quick update. Life has been pretty busy these last few days. Made some of the most life-changing decisions of my short life (probably regrettable too lol).

Anyways, I noticed that I received a DD for my piece Conformity. Such exciting and unexpected news! Thanks so much to Jade (Aeirmid) for featuring it and for all your faves and kind comments. I really do appreciate them! :glomp:

I hope to be able to return quite soon (after I browse through my neglected messages).

This is really brief, but I just wanted to thank everyone who has supported me so far. You guys are the best :)

dA Pro Nomad Bag product page: deviantartgear.deviantart.com/…

Yes I said I would review this so it's finally here. Apologies, I'm lazy and can't be bothered taking photos, but I'll link to photos others have taken as those cover most aspects of the bag anyways :)

:bulletgreen:FEATURES
:star::star::star::star-empty::star-empty:

> The bag is made by the company Brenthaven
> Main compartment fits up to A3 documents
> Front compartment (9"x10") fits A5 documents
> Tech pouch is plush on one side and I managed to fit a 15.6" snugly inside
> No hidden pockets (ie. no extra pockets that have not been depicted in the photos/mentioned on the sale page)
> Height of chest strap is adjustable
> There is an apparently vestigial strap above the tech pouch at the side. The bag lacks a handle at the top so I'm not sure if this is meant to be the handle (but if it is, it doesn't seem logical to handle a bag by the side...)
> The lining appears to be water resistant to an extent (but if drenched, water may come through). Bottom is water-proof.
> The roll top makes the bag 'extendable' upwards in a way and stuff can be rolled and strapped between it.

:bulletgreen:APPEARANCE
:star::star::star-half::star-empty::star-empty:

This bag has a fairly unique appearance and as a product on the shelf it looks quite attractive. However, when I wear it, it's quite a different story. The bag is large and I'm not that small (5'4) and yet it looks far too big for me - it covers my entire back and borders on looking ridiculously large (the 'ears' of the rolltop add to the oversize-bag-on-too-small-person look). In general, it looks chunky when worn on smaller people.

:bulletgreen:USABILITY
:star::star::star::star-half::star-empty:

This bag is comfortable to use and the chest strap/padding/tri-connection-points help to make heavy loads more bearable. However, the material of the bag is quite heavy in the first place (but not too heavy, just slightly more than the conventional backpack).

Durability wise, I am yet to discover its capabilities. So far it looks fairly sturdy - the canvas and rubberised base are quite thick and the zips are smooth and appear strong (anyways if the zip for the roll-top spoils the bag can still close properly).

My main qualms with usability is the inconvenience of using the bag. The high roll top makes it next to impossible to sling the bag over and reach for something inside the main compartment without first stopping to take it off. The breadth is quite narrow (5.5", but made even smaller if there is a computer is inside) so fitting a lot of books is quite hard - I barely squished in two lever arch files without a laptop in the main compartment (my old, conventional backpack carried the same amount).
Unless you want to stack a lot of things on top of each other (which makes getting stuff out really annoying) the bag doesn't actually carry a lot. Also, if it is filled up tightly, the sack like nature makes it hard to put in and pull stuff out. For the chunky external appearance, I am quite disappointed with the capacity - it looks massive yet doesn't carry much more than a regular backpack.

Nonetheless, if you aren't intending to carry tonnes of stuff around and frequently take it out on the go, this is quite comfy for everyday commuting from A to B.

:bulletgreen:AFFORDABILITY
:star::star::star-empty::star-empty::star-empty:

At an original price of $80 USD (more due to shipping costs) I expect a lot more from a bag than what it provides (fortunately I bought it on sale at ~$60 total). Frankly, it is overpriced. I would gauge it at the $50 mark (max) for it to be affordable for its features (on the shipping package the stated 'value' was $35 ).

:bulletgreen:OVERALL
:star::star::star::star-empty::star-empty:

The bag is comfortable, but somewhat inconvenient. Personally, I don't think it is worth the $80, but on sale it would be a decent buy. I am quite satisfied with mine and hope that will serve well in time to come.

Well I've been (partially) away for a while now. Exams are over and I'm actually already a month into holidays and unfortunately have not been able to do any art - I've just been so uninspired, not to mention I've nearly forgotten everything on how to manipulate :( I've been super frustrated at having great concepts in my mind, but have been unable to execute them due to lack of skill or appropriate stocks...
Anyone have suggestions? What do you guys do when you're uninspired?

Anyways, its good to have a little free time and I've seen a couple of great pieces around the manipulation community in the past few days. Here are a handful of recent pieces that I admire:

Considering the amount of time I have spent on Deviantart in the last year, I would have to be lying if I said I was fed up with it. Yes, I do have my complaints from  time to time, but nonetheless these are far outweighed by some great aspects of this site that just keep me coming back for more! Inspired by LiliWrites's November Thanktivity, I've written up this journal to share with you the long due list of things I love about Deviantart.

:bulletgreen: Deviantart Provides a Fantastic Environment for Learning Art
I can honestly say that my journey as an artist began by joining Deviantart. Before this, I'd meddled in colouring in pictures and some crafts as a small child, but soon gave up, leaving most of my tween years with little artistic pursuits. After lurking on my inactive account for nearly a year, I was inspired by the many wonderful artworks on this site and decided to create some of my own. Thus, my pursuits in photomanipulation began.

I have found that Deviantart really promotes the growth of aspiring artists. There are many contests available that challenge an artist to improve or experiment as well as many supportive fellow artists. Furthermore, there is an abundance of resources and tutorials to aid newbies and intermediates alike as well as projects set out by the community to help guide an aspiring artist on their journey.

:bulletgreen: The Wonderful People on this Site
I understand that there are many trolls out there (after all, this is the internet) but fortunately enough for me, I've never actually run into one in my time on this site. Instead, I've met a community of great people who are almost always bubbling with positivity. In my time here, most of the active artists have been very encouraging through their comments on my and other's works.

:bulletgreen: And Finally...the AWE-INSPIRING, BREATH-TAKING, JAW-DROPPINGLY, AWESOME *and other words I can't express with my limited vocabulary* Variety of Art on the Site
Deviantart is undoubtedly one of THE best sites to discover fantastic works of art. There are just so many talented artists out there who share their equally awesome work of art that appreciators like me can oogle their eyes at. At deviantart, members are exposed to such a wide variety of artistic mediums and the works of the maestros in those categories. One can almost always find a few gems while browsing through :)

All in all, I've enjoyed my time here and hope to enjoy it for years to come.
